The marriage rituals start with Panda Kaal Muhurtham, where both the families pray to the God for the smooth wedding ceremony. Then, the groom is greeted by the bride’s side with the customary aarti and sweets are offered before the wedding day. Vratham is the next custom in which a small puja is organized before the wedding. Following this are Pallikai Thellichal, Naandi and Nicchiyadharatham ceremony. 

On the wedding day, a ritual called as Mangala Snaanam takes place wherein the couple takes purifying bath. Next is Kashi Yatra ritual, where the groom intimidates to leave for Kashi to live an ascetic life. The bride’s father stops him and promises to give his daughter. Then, the groom makes way to the mandap to meet the bride. They exchange garlands and follow to the Oonjal ritual, wherein they sat on a swing and eat banana and milk. Next is the Kanyadaanam, where the bride is given the groom by her father. Then is Muhurtum ritual where the groom puts vermillion and ties mangalsutra to the bride. They circle seven times around the holy fire called as Saptapadi.

After the marriage, the families of the bride and the groom exchange gifts. This custom is known as Sammandhi Mariyathai. At last, the bride moves to the bride’s house and welcomed with the aarti which is called as Grihapravesham. Then, a reception party takes place where the guests give best wishes to the newly wedded couple followed by lavish dinner.
